Lack of Transparency:
Combat Deceptive PBM Practices

Recently, pharmacy benefit managers have been embroiled in public discourse about the high costs of pharmaceuticals. In an attempt to deflect the public spotlight, large pharma companies are pointing fingers at the pharmacy benefit management industry, blaming the cost of rebates as the driving force behind the massive increase in the cost of drugs. More so than ever, transparency with your pharmacy benefit manager is a crucial element for an effective partnership.

PBMs have the power to influence costs and access, and are increasingly pressured to openly discuss their business practices. When your PBM promises a transparent relationship, plans will know whether negotiations are ethical, and that all discounts and savings are made in their best interest. Unfortunately, some PBMs appear to comply with regulations and record requests, but find loop holes in technicalities that allow them to engage in deceptive practices.
